SEMINAR "EDUCATION REFORMS IN BALTIC STATES 1987-2000"

Dear Colleagues,

We have the pleasure to invite you to participate in workshop "Education reforms in Baltic states 1987-2000: critical evaluation and future strategies" in April of 6-7, 2001, Tallinn.

The organiser of the workshop is the Estonian Education Forum - a NGO body of the representatives of the Estonian educational policy interest groups. The workshop is financed by the NorFA - the institution within the organisation of the Nordic Council of Ministers with responsibility for co-ordinating research and research training initiatives. The financing covers travel and living expenses (accommodation and catering), also publishing the course materials.

The workshop has the following aims:
· Critically reflect and evaluate the Baltic education movements and reforms (1987-2000), using the available reports and other information (reports made by OECD, the World Bank, accreditation materials in higher education etc).
· To share with participants the future visions and strategies of educational development in the Baltic countries.
· To get an expert opinion from the representatives of the Nordic counties academic world on the education reforms and developmental trends in the Baltic countries.
· To reinforce the status of the research on education policies, strategies, and future studies, education macro level comparative research as an academic enterprise in the Baltic countries.
· To involve young researchers (mainly at doctorate level) from the Baltic and Nordic counties in the international comparative educational research.

The proposed participants are:
1) 5 participants from the Lithuanian HEI-s and Ministry of Education;
2) 5 participants from the Latvian HEI-s and Ministry of Education;
3) 10 participants from the Estonian HEI-s and Ministry of Education;
4) 8 participants from the Nordic countries (Norway - 2, Finland - 2, Sweden - 2, Denmark - 2).
